Cupich Crushed by Pro-Life Archbishop of Kansas City

Edit: cautiously speaking, this looks like good news.

Baltimore, Md., Nov 14, 2017 / 08:27 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In a move seen as an endorsement of St. John Paul II's “culture of life” approach, the US bishops on Tuesday elected Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City in Kansas as chairman of the conference's committee on pro-life activities.

The bishops also elected a conference secretary and the chairs of five additional committees Nov. 14 during their plenary assembly in Baltimore, Md. Board members for Catholic Relief Services were elected as well.

Archbishop Naumann won the pro-life committee with 96 votes, or 54 percent. The other candidate, Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago, garnered 82 votes, or 46 percent. The committee has customarily been overseen by a cardinal.

  1. That wasn't such a crushing.

Don't get me wrong; I'm SO grateful to God that Cupich bit it, but he never should have gotten 82 votes.....that makes me ill.

  2. Dodged a bullet this time but after the present pontiff appoints a few more bishops of the Cupich cloth, the ratio will likely change. Oh, for a short pontificate!

    1. Parolin, Secretary of State, is already "penciled in" as his replacement.

    1. yes, it is that (thanks be to God)....but it was close. Far too close. With Cupich and McElroy being arguably the worst of the worst, in even a partially sane world and Church it should have never been that close.

    2. Pacelli was secretary of state for Pius XI. Parolin is the secretary of state to Francis. He is already building a following.

  4. Gradually the JP II/Benedict bishops are reaching retirement age or waking up to the fact that they had been so utterly supine and compliant during those forty years that they are beginning to break out of the entropy and assert themselves.
Next time round equilibrium will be restored.

  5. Lukewarmness in regards to the Sanctity of human life from the moment of conception, and the Sanctity of the marital act and marriage and the family is consistent with denying that God, The Most Holy And Undivided Blessed Trinity, Is The Author of Love, of Life, and of Marriage. As the Veil is being lifted, Spiritual adultery within the hierarchy of Christ's Church, no doubt, is being exposed. A conscience that is autonomous from The Word of God, cannot be in communion with Christ and His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. One cannot be for Christ if one is against Christ. Being lukewarm is not a matter of degree.
